Graphics: Day 1

Today we started the Graphics taster and the session began by us being asked what is Graphic Design. In groups we discuss what we though were the 6 different disciplines within Graphics. 

After discussing our all of our ideas we finally got the 6:

• Typography - Designing with type
• Editorial - Magazines and maybe books
• Advertising - Posters,Banners,Billboards, Leaflets, Buses/Bus Stops, Visual Merchandising
• Corporate - Branding, Logos, Corporate Identity
• Packaging - Perfume bottles, Chocolate 
• Signs - Information and Symbols

We then looked at when drawing features within Graphics as not all of it is computer based. Thumbnail sketches help to develop ideas by drawing them in different ways.

Finished 4 Designs

I made 4 different backgrounds first 2 collage and 2 ink.

1. 'Jas' made using a graphite pencil, after lightly drawing out my shape I then filled it in in bold
2. 'G' Using my left hand only I used a grey oil pastel to make the shape then filled it in, I found this very hard at first but liked the outcome
3. '4' Using a long stick and ink to create this piece however I had to change sticks in order to fill the whole of the area with ink easily
4. 'NN' With masking tape I created my letters, then with black shoe polish went over them before finally peeling them off. This was my favorite outcome because it looks the best visually because the colours go with each other and the lettering has come out fantastically.
